I Drove My Girlfriend's Stepsister To College: a six-hour drive and a motel

The setup

Hanna needs her stepsister Kenzie driven back to campus and her boyfriend has a car. Six hours of highway, two people who have never spent an hour alone, and a phone in the cupholder that keeps lighting up with Hanna’s name.

Then the weather closes the road.

The series is built on one of the oldest structures there is — two people, one room, nowhere to go — and it does not pretend otherwise. What makes it work is the third voice. Hanna is never on screen and never stops being present.

Episode 1: six hours of highway

The drive starts as a favour and a slightly awkward one. Kenzie is talkative in the way someone is when they are nervous about a destination, and the conversation slides from campus to her stepsister to the kind of territory you do not reverse out of. Episode 1 needs no account, so this costs you nothing to judge.

Episode 2: the weather turns

The forecast does the plotting. The road closes, the motel has what motels in this genre always have, and Hanna calls to ask where they are. The episode ends on the answer he gives, which is the hook the free pair exists to deliver.

Nothing explicit has happened yet. That is deliberate.
